I assume it would not be attached to a 220 circuit? Could it be wired so it does not go through the fuse box? I would doubt it. Based on the size of the wire, it seems like it is a very low voltage circuit. Any thoughts?

So, I've had all kinds of problems. Actually, I had problems with my old door bell, but I thought a new bell would fix this. It all started when our button outside froze (it got really cold) and the UPS guy pushed it while we were gone for the weekend and we came home to the doorbell making a buzzing noise. I replaced the button, and that didn't work. So, we decided we needed a musical doorbell!

After a lot of troubleshooting, I managed to break the diode for the frontdoor.. Tomorrow I'll go to Radioshack and pick up a new one... So, right now I have no diode.

What I thought was the front door actually ended up being the backdoor (I figured out by unhooking the backdoor wire and the frontdoor button came unlit.). I had to swap the front door and the Transformer wires.... I also completely replaced the transformer (16V 10A)..

If I press the music buttons on the door bell, it will play for about a second and then quit... door bell does same thing, but the light stays on constantly.

The backdoor bell makes a crackly noise..

I did find a workaround, a 9 volt backup battery, and still wired into the transformer! (and leaving it in AC mode). The doorbells light up, and it seems to work fine. I do wish I could just run it off of house power, so at least it works as expected. Any ideas?

So, I've changed out everything except for the wires and the backdoor button.

Any ideas on the crackly and sporadic power?

I installed my doorbell and it worked as advertised for 18 months before the button I used began to require a long, hard push to activate the doorbell. I dismantled the button and repositioned the contacts to work properly (verified with ohm meter). After I reinstalled the button the chime won't activate.

I'm using a transformer and a lighted button with the diode which I've checked to be working properly. I've used the manual troubleshooting guide and switched the diode position and leads a couple of times w/o success. The button light goes out (shorting across the light bulb leads) when the button is pushed, indicating it is working properly. I have 19v no load between the F & T terminals in the chime box and the button leads . The reset, play testing procedure for the chime works.

I don't understand what I should see change at the F & T terminals when the button is pushed to initiate the chime. How can I determine if something in the chime circuitry in the box has failed to prevent the chime activation?
